Dear Concerned Citizen,

Here are three issues, two are upbeat.

  1. Town Hall Meeting on Housing in New Orleans
Where We Are – Where We’re Going
  Saturday, July 7, 2007
  Trinity Episcopal Church
  1329 Jackson Avenue
  New Orleans, Louisiana 70118
  10:00 a.m.-12 a.m.

FEDERAL INITIATIVES TO ASSIST HOUSING IN NEW ORLEANS
Honorable Maxine Waters (D-CA) to discuss the Gulf
Coast Housing Recovery Act of 2007

Rep. Waters, the eloquent NO Councilman Oliver Thomas, a CHAT representative, a RHP Official, and the LA Justice Institute will be among those speaking.

Please come and show US Congresswoman Maxine Waters that we want her continued help with the RHP and bring your input.

  2. We have begun a new series of photos of houses of Road Home applicants. Houses, which are being or have been built will be displayed on a rotating basis at the home page at our website

  http://chat.thinknola.com.

I started the ball rolling with a photo of our house because I could not find in the public domain enough good photos of rebuilding in post-hurricane LA. So, now please write to Alan Gutierrez, the force behind thinknola and therefore, chat.thinknola, if you want to send a photo of your house under construction or that has finished post-storm repairs or construction.

Alan is the one planning the Road Home Unconference, on Saturday, July 28th, 2007 at the Lindy C. Boggs International Convention Center at the University of New Orleans. The New Orleans Housing Resource Center, The Mothership Foundation, and Think New Orleans will produce the Road Home Unconference.

  3. We have been hearing about problems with re-evaluation of the percent damage of homes and other re-evaluations leading to decreases in RHP awards, sometimes to zero. So, if you are satisfied with your RH grant processing or dissatisfied, obtained your grant or still waiting, took the first CHAT online survey or not, be sure to take our second RHP survey. It is going to be used in various ways to advocate for the program. In the last box of the survey, feel free to comment at length about any of the above issues or other issues.

Please tell other applicants about this new, second survey. You may fill it out for someone else if they give you permission.

Hope you had a good 4th of July,

  Melanie
