Dear CHAT/FoCHAT Members,
Today, I had a very disturbing conversation with RHP officials, one of whom insisted that problems that many of you have documented for CHAT did, in fact, not exist. On the positive side, during this phone conference a RHP official said that applicants are entitled to all the detailed information in their RH files and can send a public records request to obtain all those details. So those of you in line for grants who are bewildered about any informational aspect of your grant details, feel free to go to CHAT's website
http://chat.thinknola.com
and copy the form letter to send by certified mail to the Division of Administration and take advantage of this invitation to do so by an official in that State Division.
Firstly, I want to thank those FoCHAT members who responded to my request for additional information provided in the CHAT survey.
Secondly, I ask those of you who are not shy about stating your case in public and who live in the metropolitan NO area to come to our meeting tomorrow night (Wed.) or the next week. We need you to bring testimony in various ways in addition to our survey. For example, we are getting more and more requests from the media for individuals to be interviewed. In addition, I think we need to bring those officials to a meeting with a tiny sample of the very large number of you who have cases that illustrate inexcusable and fixable problems in the Road Home Program.
We also invite to our meeting shy people and those of you fortunate enough not to be RH applicants (ever or no longer) but who care about the ominous shortfall in Road Home funds or the latest problems we have learned about land acquired by the Road Home Corporation.
UNO Old Bus. Admin. Rm. 212 on Wed. 6:30 PM.
Directions to the Business Bldg are given on the Campus Map for UNO. The URL is http://www.uno.edu/university/maps/maincamp.cfm. The Business Bldg is #7 on the map .
Meeting Agenda for Wed., Aug. 1
Update on negotiations with Road Home officials for improvement of the program. Melanie, KC, Shawn
Discussion of land use issues: Steve, KC, and Ricardo
Discussion of 8/29 observance
One or two-min summaries (will have to carefully watch the time) from those of you still in line who are willing to act as spokespeople for CHAT.
As a matter of CHAT policy, anyone (CHAT/FoCHAT member or not) is welcome to come to CHAT meetings and become a member of coreCHAT, rather than just a member of Friends of CHAT, with the exception of staff of the RHP. RHP staff may join FoCHAT (at least one is a member), but need to request special permission to attend CHAT meetings.
With respect to CHAT meetings, we will now try to post reminders of CHAT meetings at our website and will be updating it more frequently.
Best wishes,
Melanie
