Dear Citizens Concerned About Lousiana's Future,
1. Frank Silvestri and I, Co-Chairmen of Citizens' Road Home Action Team (CHAT) spoke today for 70 min by conference call to Andy Kopplin, the Director of the LRA. He said that our campaign to send emails to the Louisiana legislators is extremely useful for securing a some of the needed funds for the Road Home Program (RHP) shortfall so as to encourage the US Congress to provide the rest. His office will coordinate with CHAT to give us the best contact information at the beginning of next week for the US Congress to support money for the RHP shortfall. He along with the Governor and other key people for the RHP are going to Congress to appeal for more money for the program next week.
So get your fingers ready, please, to type and send just a very small number of well-targetted emails and tell your friends, neighbors, and relatives to do the same. We are coordinating some initiatives together with the LRA via him and his Deputy Director, Adam Knapp and their public relations staff about securing more money for covering the shortfall.
Frank and I relayed to him some of your concerns about fears that there is shortchanging applicants on grants (other than the elevation allowance) now because of the shortfall. He vigorously protested that it is his explicit orders that there be no low-balling of grant calculations or awards because of the shortfall. However, he acknowledges that if enough funds are not provided by the federal government across-the-board cuts (pro-rating) may be necessary.
Therefore, please stay tuned to our highly targetted requests for you to contact Congress next week and send that one email requested below to LA senators which is described at the end of this email.
For those of you who live in New Orleans, let me tell you that he spontaneously mentioned his consternation about the fate of our city. There should be a little good news in the newspapers soon from the Governor in that regard.
2. CNBC is doing a special for the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in Aug. Frank and I are working with the producer who decided, on the basis of discussions with us, to feature CHAT, CHAT concerns, and CHAT interviewees for the 15 min section on the RHP of this 1-hour special.
