Citizens' Road Home Action Team (CHAT) has begun a new initiative: gathering any comments that RHP applicants want to make about the Road Home Program for Homeowners and sending those comments COMPLETELY ANONYMOUSLY to RHP officials.
We can do that by using our current survey on the Road Home Program because the last question is a blank box for any comments you would like to make and the survey allows us to gather these separately from all the other information, including names. If you would like to be part of a long list of comment makers that we have already and for your information to thereby become part of a new RHP misery index, if you are one of the tens of thousands of applicants who are having major problems because of how the RHP is run, then go to our 3-min easy survey please, fill in the questions you want to answer, and give any comments you like at the box at the end.

CHAT Executive Board Members met yesterday with the Chairman of the St. Bernard Parish Council Joe Di Fatta, Councilman Arnie Fielkow of the New Orleans City Council, and Keith Gee from the staff of the Jefferson Parish Council (the Jeff. Councilmen were all in D.C.). They are all ready and willing to work further with CHAT. Those three Parish Councils have all just passed unanimously CHAT's proposed Bill of Road Home Rights (see at http://chat.thinknola.com). Now, it is up to all of you RHP applicants to help us to further and more powerfully to reform the RHP by providing us with data and comments. Please fill out the survey http://chatforfairness.org for yourself and for your friends and neighbors who don't have internet access, according to their answers.
Summary of Some of CHAT's Accomplishments
1. Tendering awards so that applicants do not lose the right to appeal erroneous awards while accepting the grant money offered in their award letter; important to see http://thinknola.com/w/images/9/9d/Closing_Receipt_of_Instructions_Form_24Feb07.pdf
Everyone should get this form upon going to closing.
2. Allowing homeowner-supplied pre-storm appraisals of homes made after the storm by LA certified appraisers for pre-storm valuation; see http://thinknola.com/wiki/Bill_of_Road_Home_Rights#CHAT.27s_Annotated_Bill_of_Road_Home_Rights at http://chat.thinknola.com for backtracking of RHP on this and what CHAT is insisting on.
3. Greatly improving the closing documents, which had several serious problems for the grantees; http://thinknola.com/wiki/Road_Home_Closing_Documents (The new ones are supposed to be in effect. You can see the new ones and an old one at the above link).
4. Posting all the rules for determining the amount of RHP awards at the website, which has now been done which would not have happened if it were not for CHAT's persistent efforst on this since Oct.: http://www.road2la.org/about-us/policy.htm
5. Posting blank form documents for the RHP program, including the award letter form: http://www.road2la.org/about-us/policy.htm
